Reverse Osmosis in Water Filter Systems: Advantages and Explanations

Reverse Osmosis – What Is It Actually?
To explain reverse osmosis, it is best to begin with the definition of osmosis. This refers to the diffusion of a liquid through a semipermeable membrane, with the diffusion occurring in the direction of the higher concentration. In reverse osmosis, the process of osmosis is reversed: here it is about purifying the water by separating water and contaminant particles. In English, reverse osmosis = Reverse Osmosis (RO).
Tap water with a high proportion of foreign substances and salt concentration is pressed against a semipermeable membrane by a high-pressure pump. The pore size of the membrane is so small that only pure water molecules can pass through (0.0001 µm). Other foreign substances such as hormones, medication residues, bacteria, viruses, salts, nitrates, chlorine, pesticides, heavy metals, radioactive substances, etc. are significantly larger and do not fit through the small pores.
These substances are continuously directed into the wastewater. On the pure water side, there is only pure water and very small ions. An automatic regular flushing of the system ensures that the membranes do not become contaminated or clogged. In reverse osmosis systems, wastewater is always produced in addition to the pure water, which is directed into the wastewater line of the siphon.
The ratio of pure drinking water to wastewater is between 1:2 and 1:3. 1 liter of filtered drinking water produces 2 to 3 liters of wastewater.
• Dr. rer. nat. Wolfgang Ludwig “It is not enough to vitalize and energize water through various methods if the pollutants have not actually been demonstrably removed.”
• Institut Fresenius, from the report “Drinking Water Treatment Using Reverse Osmosis Systems”, 25.09.1990: “Reverse osmosis devices remove nitrate, sulfate, chloride, sodium and hardness-forming substances, but also undissolved substances such as colloidal iron, silicic acid and asbestos fibers from the water.”
Common Prejudices Against Osmosis
• “Osmosis water is not healthy”
• “Osmosis water is dead water”
• “Osmosis water removes minerals from the body” etc.
The most important counterargument: Water filtered by osmosis is extremely pure and free of pollutants. Anyone interested who deals with nature, biology and natural principles will subsequently activate and energize the chemically “pure osmosis water” to restore the natural “vitality” to the water. Just as nature swirls the water after it emerges from the source and brings it into contact with various stones and energies, osmosis-filtered water can also be charged with natural energies and reconnected. For water has a memory that stores information, vibrations and frequencies.
Advantages of Reverse Osmosis
Reverse osmosis reliably filters particles down to 0.0001 μm – including the minerals in the water, so that a conductivity of 10-20 microsiemens can be measured at the outlet of a reverse osmosis membrane. The pre-filters used in reverse osmosis filters (sediment filter/activated carbon block filter) serve to filter out sediments, coarser dirt particles and substances such as chlorine and heavy metal compounds, thereby protecting the reverse osmosis membrane with regard to its filtration performance and longer service life.
With reverse osmosis filters, you can be sure that all pollutants are filtered out purely mechanically. The pore size of this filter is so fine that only the purest water molecules can pass through and all other substances contained in the water are removed or retained.
